Venus Enters Leo: The Courage to Be Seen

On June 13, Venus leaves Cancer behind and enters Leo, where she will remain until July 7. As the planet of relationships, values, pleasure, creativity, self-worth, and attraction moves into the sign of the Lion, we're invited to reconnect with the part of ourselves that wants to create, express, and shine.

What's particularly interesting about this ingress is that Venus doesn't enter Leo after all her problems have been solved. She enters Leo while still carrying them.

As Venus crosses into Leo, she remains in a square to Chiron at the final degree of Aries. Chiron has spent months exposing wounds around identity, courage, independence, and our right to exist as ourselves. The fear of rejection may still be present. The fear of criticism may still be present. The fear of failure may still be present. Yet Venus enters Leo anyway, and perhaps that's the first lesson of this transit.

Leo is not the absence of fear. Leo is the willingness to act despite fear.

Many people misunderstand Venus in Leo. They assume this placement is simply seeking attention, but attention is not really what Venus in Leo wants. What she wants is recognition. She wants to be seen for what she creates, what she loves, what she values, and what she is willing to risk expressing. This is a Venus that admires courage. She is drawn to people who put themselves out there, whether that's through art, music, writing, teaching, performance, entrepreneurship, or simply having the confidence to be unapologetically themselves.

Like attracts like. Venus in Leo often responds to people who embody the very qualities she is trying to cultivate within herself.

This placement is also far more loyal than many people realize. Once Venus in Leo chooses someone, she tends to be deeply devoted. She wants relationships she can celebrate and people she can proudly stand beside. There is warmth here, generosity here, and often a desire to encourage others to shine just as brightly as she does.

As Venus enters Leo, she immediately receives support from Uranus in Gemini and the Moon in Taurus through a pair of sextiles. Uranus encourages freedom of expression. It asks us to say the unexpected thing, write the post we've been hesitating to publish, try the creative project we've been overthinking, or admit a truth we've been sitting on for too long. Uranus in Gemini isn't interested in polished perfection. It wants honesty, experimentation, and authentic communication.

The Taurus Moon provides grounding for all of this. Rather than encouraging reckless courage, it reminds us that we already possess more wisdom than we think. This is the kind of courage that comes from trusting ourselves rather than proving ourselves. If you've been holding back because you're worried about how something will be received, this combination of Venus, Uranus, and the Moon suggests that your next step may be simpler than you think. You may already know exactly what you want to say.

Around June 18, Venus forms an opposition to retrograde Pluto in Aquarius while simultaneously trining Neptune in Aries. This is where the story deepens.

Every Venus placement has a shadow side, and Venus in Leo is no exception. Healthy Venus in Leo creates because she has something meaningful to express. Shadow Venus in Leo creates because she wants applause. Healthy Venus in Leo shares her gifts generously. Shadow Venus in Leo becomes dependent on external validation. She may begin measuring her worth through likes, attention, praise, recognition, or approval from others.

Pluto has very little patience for that.

As Venus opposes Pluto, we may find ourselves confronting uncomfortable questions. Are we expressing ourselves because it's authentic, or because we're hoping for a particular response? Are we following our values, or performing a version of ourselves we think others want to see? Would we still create if nobody clapped? Would we still share our work if nobody praised it? Would we still speak our truth if it wasn't popular?

Pluto isn't interested in the performance. Pluto wants to know what's underneath it.

Fortunately, Venus also receives support from Neptune in Aries at the same time. If Pluto asks whether your expression is authentic, Neptune asks whether it feels true. This trine encourages imagination, inspiration, creativity, and vision. It reminds us that the deepest validation often comes from knowing that something aligns with our own spirit, whether anyone else understands it yet or not.

As Venus continues through Leo, she eventually forms supportive trines to Saturn, Pallas Athena, Vesta, and Black Moon Lilith in Aries. By this point, the conversation begins to shift. The question is no longer whether you're willing to express yourself. The question becomes whether you're willing to commit to what you've discovered.

Saturn asks for maturity and responsibility. Pallas Athena asks for strategy and wisdom. Vesta asks for devotion. Lilith asks whether you're willing to remain authentic even when doing so makes other people uncomfortable. Together, these planets challenge Venus to move beyond performance and into purpose.

It's easy to be inspired. It's easy to begin. It's easy to enjoy attention when it's flowing freely. The harder question is whether you're willing to keep showing up after the excitement fades. Can you remain loyal to your values? Can you remain dedicated to your creative work? Can you continue expressing yourself when nobody is cheering you on?

These are the questions that will determine how much growth this transit ultimately produces.

When Venus eventually moves into Virgo, the focus will shift from expression to refinement. Virgo will help us sort through what we've learned and evaluate what is actually working. If Venus spends her time in Leo chasing validation, Virgo may inherit a mess that needs cleaning up. If Venus spends her time in Leo expressing something genuine, Virgo will have something meaningful to refine and improve.

For now, however, Venus in Leo asks something much simpler of us. Create the thing. Say the thing. Share the thing. Let yourself be seen. Not because everyone will applaud, but because your voice, your values, and your creative expression deserve to exist whether they receive immediate validation or not.

Sometimes courage isn't found after the wound heals. Sometimes courage is what helps the healing begin.
