Libra New Moon: Can I Just Enjoy My Coffee?
October 10, 2026 | 17° Libra
Can I please just have five minutes of peace?
That may be the mood of the Libra New Moon on October 10. There is a lot happening in this chart—cardinal energy that wants movement, a tense grand cross, planets retrograde and reconsidering their priorities, and Scorpio planets digging around beneath the surface looking for answers.
And the Sun and Moon in Libra seem to be sitting off to the side with a cup of coffee asking: Can’t everything just be okay for a minute?
Maybe it can.
This chart contains considerably more flowing energy than friction. There are plenty of trines, along with a supportive sextile from the New Moon to Jupiter in Leo. There is room here for pleasure, creativity, connection, and simply enjoying what is good in your life. Not every moment needs to become a problem that has to be solved.
But that doesn’t mean nothing is happening underneath the surface.
Peace—or Avoidance?
The New Moon at 17° Libra forms a cardinal grand cross with Ceres in Cancer, Black Moon Lilith in Capricorn, and retrograde Pallas Athena and Vesta in Aries.
Each one seems to be asking a different question.
Ceres in Cancer asks what needs to be cared for, nourished, or protected. What—or who—depends on you? And are the ways you are providing that care actually sustainable?
Black Moon Lilith in Capricorn is considerably less polite. She may be questioning obligations, expectations, authority, and all the things we do because somebody decided that this is simply how responsible people are supposed to behave. With Lilith out of bounds, she may be even less interested than usual in following rules she no longer respects.
Across from the New Moon, Pallas Athena and Vesta are both retrograde in Aries. This doesn’t necessarily look like a call to charge forward. Instead, there may be an internal reconsideration taking place. What is actually worth your energy? What do you stand for? Does your current strategy reflect who you are now—or who you used to be?
There's a lot of chatter, and Libra would really like everyone to stop talking for five minutes.
There is a difference, however, between choosing peace and avoiding something because dealing with it would disturb the peace, and that appears to be one of the central questions of this New Moon.
Meanwhile, Mercury Has Questions
Mercury in Scorpio isn’t helping.
The New Moon forms a wide inconjunct to Mercury, which is already traveling through the territory it will revisit during its coming retrograde cycle. Mercury in Scorpio isn't particularly interested in accepting the pleasant answer when it suspects there is a more complicated one underneath.
Libra: Everything's fine.
Mercury: Is it, though?
Mercury is also loosely conjunct Venus in Scorpio and sextile Black Moon Lilith, adding another layer of willingness to look at what is uncomfortable, unspoken, or inconvenient.
That doesn't mean you have to figure everything out right now. In fact, the amount of retrograde activity in this chart suggests quite the opposite. Some questions may need to remain questions for a while.
And Venus Is Busy
Venus rules this New Moon, which makes her condition especially important—and Venus has some shi*t going on. Newly retrograde in Scorpio, Venus is beginning an inward examination of desire, values, relationships, resources, pleasure, and what we are willing to invest ourselves in. Scorpio isn't particularly interested in superficial answers. Venus here may want to understand why she wants what she wants—and whether she still wants it at all.
Add to that, she's doing this while sitting at the focal point of an exact fixed T-square with Mars in Leo and retrograde Pluto in Aquarius.
Mars in Leo may ask a much simpler question: What do I want? What makes me feel alive? Can we please stop making everything so complicated?
Pluto is digging at something deeper. The underlying structures are changing, and Venus may have to reckon with the possibility that what she once valued—or the conditions under which she valued it—has changed too.
Then retrograde Uranus in Gemini comes along with an inconjunct, tossing new information, ideas, and possibilities into the mix.
Venus: I'm trying to figure out how I actually feel about this.
Mars: But what do you want? What makes you happy? It really doesn't have to be this complicated.
Pluto: Actually, it might. Because some things have fundamentally changed, and we should probably talk about that.
Uranus: OR—and hear me out—have you considered this completely different possibility?
Venus: Oh my Goddes. Can everybody please leave me alone? I'm busy.
For a Libra New Moon that would really like things to feel pleasant and harmonious, its ruler is doing some serious work below the surface.
But What If There's Another Way?
Fortunately, the chart isn't only asking difficult questions.
The New Moon sextiles Jupiter in Leo, offering an opening toward joy, generosity, creativity, confidence, and play. Sometimes what feels good isn't a distraction from the work. Sometimes enjoyment tells us something important about what we actually want. Jupiter also trines retrograde Vesta in Aries, connecting that sense of possibility with the ongoing reconsideration of what deserves our devotion and energy.
The New Moon forms a wide trine to Hecate in Aquarius. Hecate is associated with thresholds and crossroads—the moment when we stand between paths and decide which direction to take. Aquarius isn't especially interested in choosing between the same two options we've always been offered.
Maybe there is another road.
Maybe there is a solution you haven't considered because it doesn't look like what you thought the answer was supposed to look like.
Maybe you don't have to choose yet at all.
Enjoy the Coffee
This New Moon doesn't feel like a demand for immediate action.
There is plenty of cardinal energy in the chart, so something wants to move. But with Venus newly retrograde, Pallas Athena and Vesta retrograde, Pluto retrograde, Uranus retrograde, and Mercury approaching its own review process, we may still be figuring out what that movement should look like.
So enjoy the coffee.
Sit in the sunshine. Spend time with people you like. Make something. Laugh. Let something be easy simply because it is easy. The peaceful moment isn't fake just because there are unresolved things underneath it.
But pay attention to what keeps needling you. Notice the question that returns after you've tried to dismiss it. Notice the obligation that suddenly feels heavier than it used to. Notice what you're no longer willing to tolerate. Notice what brings you unexpectedly alive. Notice the strange new possibility that keeps wandering into your thoughts.
You don't necessarily have to do anything about it yet.
But you probably shouldn't pretend you didn't notice.
As always, how this New Moon affects you personally depends on where 17° Libra falls in your natal chart and the aspects it makes to your natal planets and points.
